Looking for ways to bring education outdoors? Whether you are an environmental educator on a park or forest, a classroom teacher for Pre-K to 12th grade students, or a parent looking for outdoor enrichment for your kids, we have resources for you. All FREE of course! Here’s a run-down of some of our activities that can be done outdoors.
Each activity includes a brief description, a target grade level, and an estimate of the time needed for the activity. Where available, we’ve also included a link to the Spanish version of the activity.
This is a really big list, and we’ll keep adding to it as we add more outdoor activities! Use the topic list to narrow your search:

- Atmosphere
- Birds
- Carbon
- Insects/Invertebrates
- Invasive Species
- Mammals
- Nature and Human Health
- Nature Observations
- Orienteering and Mapping
- Scientific Methods
- Soil
- Trees and Plants
- Water
Many activities overlap topics, so use these categories as a jumping-off point. Similarly, grade levels listed are the target grade levels, but you may be able to use the activity for other grade levels as well.
Looking for an Outdoor Activity Book?
NSI: Nature Science Investigator (NSI) is a self-guided activity book for children ages 8-14. The booklet enables each student to become the scientist! We highlight 11 different scientists, and each scientist is paired with 2-3 outdoor, hands-on activities. Use NSI at the playground, at home, in the park, or at the campground!
- Be the scientist!
- You only need a pencil!
- Small and portable for outdoor use!
- Available in English and Spanish!
