My favorite experiences as a scientist are when I’m doing field work in burned forest habitat. I like working in fire areas where most of the trees were killed by fire. Many people assume that these areas are somehow damaged. In reality, the sights and sounds of native wildlife species, especially birds, are more evident in these types of forests than in others.
