Forests & Plants
Kayla Herriman, Biological Scientist & Seed Extractory Manager
Artemis Moon TreesForests & Plants- M.S., University of Idaho
- USDA Forest Service
- A seed scientist studies the structure and development of seeds until germination of a new plant. For the Moon Trees project, I was responsible for checking seed quality and packaging the tree seeds.

Richard Gilbert, Biological Scientist & Nursery Manager
Artemis Moon TreesForests & Plants- B.S., University of Nebraska
- USDA Forest Service
- My job is to help plants grow. At the oldest Federal tree nursery, we produce 1.5 million seedlings and 1.5 million container trees every year. These seedlings are sent to national forests for planting. I am recieving some of the Moon Tree seeds to help grow them into seedlings before being distributed.

Aram Eramian, Nursery Manager
Artemis Moon TreesForests & Plants- M.S., University of Idaho
- USDA Forest Service
- I am responsible for the nursery’s program of work overseeing the production of conifer seedlings for reforestation of lands managed by the Forest Service. For the Moon Trees project, I was responsible for selecting and donating some of the tree seeds.

Kas Dumroese, Senior Scientist, Research Plant Physiologist
Artemis Moon TreesForests & Plants- Ph.D., University of Idaho
- USDA Forest Service
- I help people grow native plants in nurseries and use them to restore ecosystems. I provide the science-based technical information about which seeds were selected to go on Artemis I, how to grow them into seedlings at nurseries, and the best techniques for nurturing them after planting.

Christopher Woodall, Applied Forest Ecologist
Forests & Plants- Ph.D., University of Montana
- USDA Forest Service Scientist
- An applied forest ecologist develops new knowledge regarding the function and processes of forest ecosystems. This knowledge can have real impacts on forest management and conservation.

Keith Woeste, Geneticist
Forests & Plants- Ph.D., University of California
- USDA Forest Service Scientist
- As a geneticist, I use DNA and RNA to reveal the secret life of trees. DNA and RNA are found in the cells of living things. They contain the information to help organisms develop and function.

Melissa Thomas-Van Gundy, Silviculturist & Forester
Forests & Plants- Ph.D., West Virginia University
- USDA Forest Service Scientist
- A silviculturist is a forester who is just as concerned about what trees are left in the woods after a harvest than what products are removed from the forest.

Natalie S. van Doorn, Urban Ecologist
Forests & Plants- Ph.D., University of California Berkeley
- USDA Forest Service Scientist
- An urban ecologist studies the relationship of living organisms with each other and their surroundings in an urban environment. I have focused my research on urban forests which are an important part of urban ecosystems in many cities and towns across the world
