    (ǝ sō sē ā tǝd): Related, connected, or combined together.

  • carnivorous

    (kär ni vǝ rǝs): Feeding on animal tissues.

  • carrion

    (ker ē ǝn): Dead and decaying flesh.

  • ethical

    (e thi kǝl): Following professional or accepted standards of conduct.

  • extinct

    (ik stiŋ(k)t or ek stiŋ(k)t): No longer existing.

  • forest manager

    (fȯr ǝst ma ni jǝr): A person who manages a forest; in the Forest Service, forest managers focus on managing vegetation, restoring ecosystems, reducing hazards, and maintaining forest health (definition from USDA Forest Service).

  • forested

    (fȯr ǝ stǝd): Covered with trees or forests; wooded.

  • fragmentation

    (frag mǝn tā shǝn): The process of breaking up or apart.

  • habitat

    (ha bә tat): The place or environment where a plant or animal naturally or normally lives and grows.

  • harvest

    (här vǝst): To gather in a crop.

  • live trap

    (līv trap): A trap for catching an animal alive and uninjured.

  • population

    (pä pyǝ lā shǝn): The total of individuals occupying an area.

  • population density

    (pä pyǝ lā shǝn den sǝ tē): The number of individuals living in each unit of area (such as a square mile).

  • scarce

    (skers): Lacking in quantity or number; not plentiful.
