weather

(we thǝr): The state of the atmosphere in regard to heat or cold, wetness or dryness, calm or storm, clearness or cloudiness.

(we thǝr): The condition of the air at a certain place and time, such as the temperature and whether or not it is raining.

weather station

(we thǝr stā shǝn): A station for taking, recording, and reporting observations of the weather.

wetlands

(wet landz): Land or areas (such as marshes or swamps) that are covered, often intermittently, with shallow water or have soil saturated with moisture.

wilderness

(wil dǝr nǝs): In this case, an area designated by Congress to be preserved in a wild and natural condition as part of the National Wilderness Preservation System.

wilderness area

(wil dər nəs er ē ə): An area in the United States designated by law for preservation and protection in its natural condition. A wilderness area also refers to a large unspoiled natural area.

wilderness manager

(wil dər nəs ma ni jər): A skilled individual who manages a wilderness area.

wildfire

(wī(ǝ)ld fī(ǝ)r): An uncontrolled, damaging fire started in a wilderness or rural area.

(wīld fī ǝr): An uncontrolled outdoor fire; an outdoor fire that is unwanted.

wildland

(wī(ǝ)l(d) land): An area in which few or no people live that is not used for farming and is more or less in its natural state.

wildland fire

(wī(-ə)l(d) land (-e)r): A fire that occurs in an area of land that is uncultivated or undeveloped by humans.

wildlife

(wī(e)l(d) līf): Living things and especially mammals, birds, and fishes that are neither human nor domesticated.

wildlife manager

(wi(uld) lif ma ni jür): Skilled individual who manages natural resources for wildlife.

woody

(wu̇ dē): Having woody parts, meaning rich in xylem and associated structures.

(yir liŋ): An animal that is one year old or in the second year after birth.
