(sək se shən əl ve jə tā shən): Plants, trees, and shrubs that naturally replace other plant life over time.

Superfund
(sü pər fənd): The informal name for the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA); the act that allows the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to clean up contaminated sites and also forces the parties responsible for the contamination to either perform cleanups or reimburse the government for EPA-led cleanup work. (sǝr fǝs wȯ tǝr): Natural water that has not penetrated much below the surface of the ground.

(sər ə gāt): (verb) Substitute; to put in the place of another.
survey
(sǝr vā): A questioning or canvassing of persons selected at random or by quota to obtain information or opinions to be analyzed.

(sə sep tə bil ət ē): Lack of ability to resist some outside agent (such as a disease-causing germ or drug).

(sǝ sep tǝ bǝl): (1) Having little resistance to something, like a disease or infection; (2) easily affected.

(sǝ stān): (1) To give support or relief to; (2) to keep up.
sustainable
(sǝ stā nǝ bǝl): Of, relating to, or being a method of harvesting or using a resource so that the resource is not used up or permanently damaged.
