A
asexual reproduction
(ā sek shǝ wǝl rē prǝ dǝk shǝn): Reproduction (as cell division, spore formation, fission, or budding) without union of individuals or gametes.

association
(ə sō sē āt): A connection or relationship between things or people.
assume
(ə süm): To take information as granted or true.
assumption
(ǝ sǝm(p) shǝn): A fact or statement taken for granted (that it is true).
astronomer
(ǝ strä nǝ mǝr): Scientist who studies heavenly bodies, like planets and stars, and their sizes, motions, and composition.

(as trə nä mi kəl): Of or relating to astronomy, which is the scientific study of stars, planets, and other objects in outer space.
asymmetrical
(ā sə me tri kəl): Having two sides or halves that are not the same.
atmosphere
(at mə sfir): Air that surrounds the Earth.
atmospheric
(at mə sfēr ik): Of, relating to, or occurring in the atmosphere. The atmosphere is the whole mass of air surrounding Earth.
atoll
(a tȯl): A coral island consisting of a reef surrounding a lagoon.
atomic weight
(ǝ tä mik wāt): The mass of one atom of an element.
attainment
(ə tān mənt): To have possession of.
attractant
(ə trak tənt): A substance (such as a pheromone) that attracts specific animals (such as insects or individuals of the opposite sex).
auger
(ȯ gǝr): A tool made like a spiral or screw that is used to dig holes or move loose material.
auger survey
(ȯ gər sər vā): The examination or inspection of soil with a variety of tools made like a spiral or screw and used for boring holes or moving loose material.
aurora borealis
(ə rȯr ə bȯr ē a ləs): an aurora, or a phenomenon that consists of streamers or arches of light, that occurs in Earth's northern hemisphere, also called the northern lights.
authorize
(ȯ thə rīz): To empower, approve, or support.
autumn
(ȯ təm): The season between summer and winter.
avalanche
(a və lanch): A large mass of snow and ice or of earth and rock sliding down a mountainside.
