intercept

(in tǝr sept): To take or seize on the way to or before arrival.

interdisciplinary

(in tər di sə plə ner ē): Involving two or more academic, scientific, or artistic disciplines.

interpret

(in tər prət): (1) To explain the meaning of; (2) to understand according to one's own belief or judgment.

interviewer

(in tǝr vyü ǝr): A person who conducts an interview; a person who obtains information from another by asking a series of questions.

intrigue

(in trēg): To arouse the interest, desire, or curiosity of.

invasive

(in siv): Tending to spread especially in a quick or aggressive manner, such as a nonnative species growing and dispersing easily, usually to the detriment of native species and ecosystems.

invasive species

(in siv spē sēz): An organism that is not native to the place where it is found and tends to grow and spread easily usually to the detriment (harm) of native species and ecosystems.

inventory

(in vǝn tȯr ē): A complete list of items (as of goods on hand or a survey of natural resources).

inverse

(in vərs): Opposite in order, nature, or effect.

invertebrate

(in vər tə brət or in vər tə brāt): An animal (such as a worm, clam, spider, or butterfly) that lacks a backbone.

invigorate

(in vi gə rāt): To cause (something) to become more active and lively.

ions

(ī änz): Atoms that carry a positive or negative electric charge as a result of having lost or gained one or more electrons.

ironically

ni k(ə-)lē): In a manner that expresses inconsistency between an actual and an expected result of a sequence of events.

irrelevant

(i re lə vənt): Not having to do with the matter at hand.

irreplaceable

(ir i plā sə bəl): Not replaceable.

irrigation

(ir ǝ shǝn): The watering of land by artificial means to foster plant growth.

isotope

(ī sə tōp): Any of two or more species of atoms of a chemical element with the same atomic number and nearly identical chemical behavior but with differing atomic mass or mass number and different physical properties.

juvenile

( və nīl): Showing incomplete development.

K

karst

(kärst): An irregular limestone region with sinkholes, underground streams, and caverns.

kiln

(kiln): A oven, furnace, or heated enclosure used for processing a substance by burning, firing, or drying.
