((h)ər bə vȯr): A plant-eating animal.

(hər pə tä lə jist): A person who studies reptiles and amphibians.
hibernacula
(hī bər na kyə lə): (singular: hibernaculum) Shelters occupied during the winter by a dormant animal (such as an insect, snake, bat, or marmot).

(hī bǝr nāt): To pass the winter in a sleeping or resting state.
hotshot crew
(hät shät krü): A highly trained fire crew used mainly to build firelines by hand.

(hyü məd): Damp, moist.

hypothesis
(hī pä thǝ sǝs): An assumption or idea that is proposed for the sake of argument so that it can be tested to see if it might be true.

(hī pä thǝ sīz): To make an assumption or idea that is proposed for the sake of argument so that it can be tested to see if it might be true.

(hī pə the ti kəl): (1) Imagined as an example for further thought; (2) assumed.

iconic
(ī kän ik): Of or pertaining to an icon. An icon is a picture representation, a symbol.
ignite
(ig nīt): To cause to burn.
ignition
(ig ni shǝn): The starting of a fire.
immune system
(i myün si stǝm): The bodily system that protects the body from foreign substances, cells, and tissues by producing the immune response and that includes especially the thymus, spleen, lymph nodes, lymphocytes, and antibodies.
immunity
(i myü nə tē): The power of the body to resist an infectious disease.
