ecologist

(i lǝ jist): A scientist who studies the relationship between living things and their environment.

ecology

(i lǝ gē): A branch of science concerned with the relationships between living things and their environment.

economic

(ek ǝ mik): Of, relating to, or based on the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services.

economically

(e ko nom ik le): Having to do with the management of money in a home, business, or government.

economics

(ek ǝ miks): A social science concerned chiefly with description and analysis of the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services.

economist

(e kän uh mist): A scientist who studies economics. Economics is the study of the way goods, services, and wealth are measured, produced, distributed, and used.

economy

(i nǝ mē): A system relating to the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services in a country, area, or period.

ecosystem

(ē kō sis tǝm): A system made up of an ecological community of living things interacting with their environment especially under natural conditions.

(ē kō sis tǝm): A group of plants and animals that interact with each other and their environment.

ecosystem service

(ē kō si stǝm sǝr vǝs): Any of the various benefits provided by plants, animals, and the communities they form.

eddy

(e dē): A current of air or water running against the main current or in a circle.

edible

(e də bəl): Fit to be eaten.

efficient

(i fi shǝnt): Capable of producing desired results with little or no waste (as of time or materials).

effluent

flü ənt): Liquid (such as sewage or industrial by-products) discharged as waste.

element

(e lǝ mǝnt): One of the parts of which something is made up.

(e lǝ vāt): To raise above the ground or other surface.

elevation

(e lǝ shǝn): The height above sea level.

eligible

(e lǝ jǝ bǝl): Qualified to participate or be chosen.

embryo

(em brē ō): A tiny, young plant within a seed, usually containing beginning forms of a root, stem, and leaf.

emerge

(i mərj): To become known or visible.
