As a wildfire prevention officer, I provide guidance, leadership, and program management with a focus on wildfire prevention and education to my unit employees and customers to establish appropriate and effective methods to educate, manage, and modify their behavior with the goal of preventing adverse impacts caused by unplanned wildfire ignitions.
Attention to detail, critical thinking skills, and the ability to translate collected data for communities and partners through educational forums and local events. Analyzing data and providing dynamic information to our internal and external audiences daily.
I investigate wildfires to determine their origin and cause and set a foundation for case development in fire trespass cases. I assess fire statistics and mitigation strategies, and I identify major causes of wildfire to create unique plans to prevent and mitigate the ignition of wildfire.
I utilize a variety of databases and software tools to track and analyze wildfire ignition data and human and social behavior to mitigate unplanned wildfires.
Wildfire investigation is the foundation for identifying and addressing critical fire issues to ensure successful prevention of unwanted ignitions. This protects humans, property, and ecosystems.
At an early age, I was inspired by Deanne Shulman, the first female smokejumper and one of the earliest women to serve on hotshot and rappel crews. This insight motivated me to pursue employment opportunities with engines, hand crews, helicopter rappel teams, and hotshot crews before discovering my passion for wildfire prevention and investigation.
