As an education specialist, I help create stories at the intersection of people, forests, grasslands, and now the MOON! My work helps kids and families understand natural processes and the concept of “multiple use.” The common theme in every lesson is: humans are a part of nature, and we are all connected.

Remember that learning is fun! Visit every nature center and museum near you, and read every sign you pass. Then TALK with your friends and family about the things YOU found interesting. Have fun studying and experimenting with the stuff you read. Finally, practice talking about what you’re learning.

It’s the same with every education project we have: What are the best ways to share this information so that it’s fun, interesting, and understandable to both an 8-year-old and to my grandma at the same time?

My cell phone is literally a computer in the palm of my hands! It’s a tool when used the right way. I use my cell to research scientific topics, check my understanding, and even record and share instructional videos. The cell phone literally brings the whole library with me!

Honestly, it’s been the whole FSNatureLIVE series! I’ve met so many different types of scientists and experts. Seeing their joy while explaining THEIR field of expertise to young people—that’s the best. Hearing a kid say I want to work in this field they just learned about—priceless!

On one of my first hiking trips, at about age 10. I was impressed whenever someone could tell us something useful and fun about the trees and plants we saw. In my job, I’m able to share this love for the environment and strengthen connections of communities to each other and to nature all around us.
