I get to work on all of the publications that the Forest Service puts out. Some of those publications are related to the Moon Trees project. I make sure there are no errors in the publications before they are released to the public.
If you like reading, then being an editor is a great career option. I have to read a lot! I love reading so much that even after I leave work, I go home and read more for fun! If you are interested in a job as an editor, try to read challenging books that help expand your vocabulary.
One question I get asked is, “Why do I have to make this change to my publication?” Sometimes people don’t like the changes we have to make, but we do have specific guidelines we have to follow that set the rules for our publications.
I am on the computer a lot. On my computer, I have to use Adobe and Microsoft products to help complete my job. They make it easy for me to send corrections and comments to people.
As part of my job, I get to work with paleontologists at the Forest Service to create publications about the fossils we find in national forests. When I get to work with this group, it is very exciting for me. I love reading about all of the fossils that we are finding right here in the United States.
When I was in 11th grade, I had to take a very hard English class with a very hard teacher. The teacher told me I was an excellent writer, and she really helped to nourish that talent for me. At that point, I knew I needed to keep writing as an option for me in the future.
