This Just In! New Readers from Natural Inquirer

We have two Readers newly available on our website for order or download (FREE!). One of them, Meet Smokey Bear’s Team, is brand new and was released in time to commemorate Smokey Bear’s 80th birthday. The other, Meet Dr. Warwell, is a Reader that went out of stock nearly as soon as we printed it! Both are here, in stock, and worth checking out!

Meet Smokey Bear's Team

In this Reader, kids from Pre-K to 2nd grade meet Smokey Bear and learn about both useful and dangerous fires. Then Smokey Bear introduces some of the many people working on his team to detect, prevent, study, and educate the public on wildfires.

In the included activity, kids choose one of Smokey’s 5 Rules of Wildfire Prevention and illustrate it. They can even mail their drawings to Smokey! (He has his own ZIP code, you know.)

Written in simple language with colorful illustrations and photographs, Meet Smokey Bear’s Team is a great way to introduce the concept of wildfire prevention and some of the people working to keep us (and forests and grasslands) safe and healthy.

Meet Dr. Warwell!

Cover of the Natural Inquirer Reader Meet Dr. WarwellBack in stock, the Meet Dr. Warwell Reader focuses on the work of forest geneticist Dr. Marcus Warwell. Kids from Pre-K to 2nd grade learn about how Dr. Warwell got interested in seed science and about one of his experiments – studying how seeds from ponderosa pines respond to drought. His data can help reforestation efforts in drought-prone areas.

In the included activity, kids track their water usage using a simple chart and think about ways they can conserve water, too.

Readers are a great way to introduce the work of scientists to our youngest students, and they include supplemental resources like glossaries, critical thinking questions, and more. Lesson plans for using the Readers are also available under the “Educator Guide” tab for each Reader.
