I focus on plant and fire interactions. I am interested in how fire helps shape the vegetative landscape around us. I have had a long, successful career, so picking out a specific science experience is difficult. But a few things come to mind—like flying around in a helicopter to identify historic fires in Alaska or learning how tree seedlings get established after fires in Mexico or looking at patterns of vegetation change in the Amazon forests of Brazil. Every day outside is a good one.
