May Is Wildfire Awareness Month

As we move into peak fire season, it’s a great time to raise our awareness of all things wildfire. Wildfire work continues year round. Forest workers perform wildfire prevention measures like mechanical thinning and prescribed fire across the country. Researchers investigate how fires spread, impacts of smoke, and how to better predict outcomes. Read more about how the Forest Service is preparing for fire season here.

Exploring the Science of Fire

Here are a few highlights of Natural Inquirer resources on fire-related research and some fun activities to help kids think about fire science. And look out for a new monograph coming soon about research on the impacts of thinning and prescribed fire on forest resiliency.
